Most sourcing problems start before the first order, at the point where a buyer cannot tell a factory from a trading company that forwards emails. These are the questions that separate them.
A trader is not automatically a problem — some traders are efficient and well organised. But you pay a margin, and you lose control over production timing, which is exactly what matters when a shipment is late.
The reliable test is a request for something only a factory can answer: the production process for a specific component, the tooling that exists for a given model, or a photo of the line producing it. Traders can forward a price list; they cannot describe a process they do not run.
| Item | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Unit price at stated quantity | A price without a quantity is not a price |
| MOQ, and whether trial orders below it are possible | Decides whether you can test before committing |
| Carton dimensions, weight and units per carton | Drives freight cost more than unit price does |
| Container loading quantity | Tells you the real landed cost per unit |
| Sampling cost and lead time | Reveals how organised the factory is |
| Payment terms | The part most buyers forget to negotiate |
Ask for the inspection points, not the promise of quality. For pet furniture the usual ones are: board thickness and edge finish, joint hardware, sisal coverage, load test on platforms, hardware count against the bill of materials, and carton drop resistance.
A supplier who can list these without prompting has been asked before, usually by buyers who had a problem.
Pet furniture is bulky. A product with a low unit price and poor packing density can cost more landed than a slightly dearer product packed efficiently. Always ask for units per 20GP and per 40HQ before comparing prices — and check whether the model can be shipped knocked-down.
Real products we manufacture — sizes and options are on the product page.

Ask questions only a producer can answer: monthly capacity for the specific model, which components are made in-house, and the production process for a named part. Traders can forward documents; they struggle to describe a line they do not run.
It depends on the model and the material. The useful question is not the headline MOQ but whether trial orders below it are accepted, because that determines whether you can test sell-through before committing to container volume.
Landed cost at the same container fill. Pet furniture is bulky, so packing density and carton size can outweigh a small difference in FOB price.
